Leaders for Change 2014 (L4C) was held in San Francisco in November, and we can hardly find the words to describe what an incredible experience we had with this amazing group of young people and their adult allies from Oregon, Colorado, California, Nebraska, Iowa, Texas, Georgia, Florida, New York and Massachusetts.
Just take a quick look at our Facebook page and you’ll start to get a sense of the energy at this conference. The theme, Communicating for Change, was structured to help participants develop their communication skills for advocacy and policy change. But the most important work we do at this conference is connect young people with each other, and help them see that there is power in their stories — power that multiplies when they come together as a group.
At this year’s Leaders for Change, 100% of youth agreed or strongly agreed that they
1) learned new skills;
2) are now more connected to other foster care leaders;
3) more motivated to make change;
4) taking back at least one new idea for their work;
5) had a great time and
6) would want to come back.
