Eddye Vanderkwaak Joins FYA as Our New Full-Time Lead Organizer

We want to extend a warm, and public welcome to Eddye Vanderkwaak to our FYA team. Eddye is coming on to stregthen our organizing capacity and better connect and support our growing national network of foster youth organizers and youth-led groups.
Eddye has experience as Child Protective Worker with the State of Iowa Department of Human Services, and was a Restorative Justice Specialist with Iowa Juvenile Court Services (JCS). There she led local efforts around Disproportionate Minority Contact and community engagement for the Court, including the coordination of JCS Courageous Conversations with the African-American families and youth who have experienced Iowa’s juvenile justice system. Eddye has been a Young Fellow with the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative since 2011, and received her BA in Sociology from Drake University.
She is a self-taught artist, who enjoys using this medium to contribute meaningfully to her local community. Eddye is most excited to join the FYA team and to partner with a national effort who values youth voice, social justice, racial equity, and youth organizing.
Her first day is July 30th, 2018.
