Webinar: Making the case for foster youth led organizing

Youth leaders and adult allies from FYA and its partners make the case for this youth engagement strategy on a June 28th, 2018 webinar.

In this  webinar, FYA makes the case for youth organizing with foster youth. As a distinct approach to youth engagement, youth organizing is particularly effective in engaging marginalized and disconnected young people, while also supporting them to drive systems-level change. This approach has been embraced widely outside of child welfare but is far less common within the field.

FYA shares evidence and stories about this strategy, describes key practices for organizing with youth in care, and makes recommendations for growing this approach nationally. Young adult organizers and staff supporters from California Youth Connection and Colorado’s Project Foster Power provide perspectives about the power of this strategy, and describe successes and challenges in starting up and sustaining this approach over time.

An accompanying written report by Foster Youth in Action was released in conjunction with this webinar, and can be found here.
