Welcome Washington and Massachusetts!

The Action Network is pleased to announce our newest Program Partners in both Washington and Massachusetts!

Representing the state of Washington is The Mockingbird Society and in Massachusetts, HEROES.

The Mockingbird Society has been working with the mission of 168053_181614005204753_2446503_n“building a world-class foster care system” and have had impressive results. From the Mockingbird Society’s site: “We are the leading, independent voice for foster care reform in Washington state and beyond, built upon youth-inspired solutions and public support for every child’s right to a safe home and bright future.”

Join the Movement!

The Action Network is training foster youth to be leaders, and to raise their voices for policy change that directly impacts their lives and the lives of foster children across the country.

Thanks to your support, 2012 has been a year of unprecedented growth and achievement for the Action Network.  We held our inaugural Leaders for Change conference, increased the number of trainings we offer, worked with Karen Bass’ (D-CA) office on Shadow Day 2012, and most recently, welcomed The Mockingbird Society in Washington State as our newest partner organization to name just a few milestones.

Please take a moment to listen to trainers, participants and policymakers from Leaders for Change 2012 talk about how the Action Network has impacted their lives and work. Share our video with friends and on Facebook to help the movement grow!

NFYAN Board Member, Johnny MadridWe at the Action Network are very proud of our Board members for their hard work, dedication and passion for our mission. While we get a chance to know them as members of the Action Network family, it is wonderful when they get publicly recognized for their community service and commitment to making the world a better place for foster youth. We are thrilled that Board Member Johnny Madrid is getting some much deserved attention for his various activities that support several foster youth causes, including the Action Network. See this article for a snapshot of one of our leaders and a true champion for foster youth.

Earth, Wind & Fire Empower Indianapolis Youth

Last Wednesday, Earth, Wind & Fire’s lead singer, Philip Bailey’s Music Is Unity Foundation, the Action Network, and our state Program Partner in Indiana, Child Advocates, Inc. partnered to offer the third empowering concert experience to local foster youth.  The legendary band performed at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis, IN, on September 26.

Mr. Bailey conducted an exclusive tour with the group of young people prior to the concert and concluded with special and intimate sound check experience. Following the band’s live concert performance the selected group met with the band backstage at a private reception with top community leaders hosted by the Action Network.

Young people coming out of the foster care system at age 18 struggle to reach their dreams,” said Philip Bailey, “they struggle from high levels of poverty and lower levels of education.  By empowering others we find solutions together.”

Thanks again for an amazing time, Mr. Bailey.
